Please Consider Signing Our Petition to Expand Cheekwood Golf Club

We, the undersigned Williamson County residents, request that Board of Mayor and Aldermen grant Cheekwood Golf Club (“Cheekwood”) a lease for the 54 acres of City-owned land located along the southeast quadrant of Hillsboro Road and Mack Hatcher, which is directly adjacent to the existing approximately 55-acre Cheekwood golf course.

Cheekwood has a 22-year successful history in Franklin and is one of only three golf courses in Williamson County fully open to the public. Unlike the other entities vying for the land lease, Cheekwood is the only one that does not have the luxury of choosing another location.
THE LEASE will enable Cheekwood to:

  • Expand the existing Executive 9-hole golf course to a Regulation 9-hole course.
  • Relocate ALL its golf “operations” (i.e. carts, maintenance operations, clubhouse, parking lot) away from the residential homes
  • Build an attractive new, multi-purpose clubhouse facility
  • Renovate and enhance the course to ensure the long-term sustainability of Cheekwood Golf Club.
  • Remain in an area and on land that is ideally suited to meet our community’s growing golf needs, and provide Williamson County with a new recreational /community gathering venue for corporate, civic and social use.

The benefits to the City of Franklin and our community of granting this lease to Cheekwood include:

  • Managed impact on traffic by moving all current and future ingress and egress traffic out of the residential area and off a curvy, two-lane side road to a signalized, four-lane divided highway with a soft, dispersed, and staggered traffic flow from all directions
  • Land improvements that will double the water management of the 54 acres, improve water drainage of the entire property, improve the overall environmental aspects of the green space and enhance the protection of the Harpeth River and wildlife in the surrounding area.
  • Providing a manicured, 54 pristine acres of open green space with outdoor park-like landscapes for relaxation and enjoyment by golfers and the community.
  • A second driving range in Williamson County, and the only one that will be lighted for night play
  • A new clubhouse facility that fits with the overall historic character of Franklin and the surrounding Harlinsdale Farm Park area, which includes space for civic and community gatherings, weddings, receptions, banquets, graduation functions, workshops, non-profit /organization meetings, etc.
  • A Golf Academy and a practice facility for youth and school golf teams
  • A new trailhead for public use, with parking available for people using the trail
  • Additional tax revenue to the City from the golf course expansion and addition venue space rentals
  • Improvements to the land and a flexible facility that will continue to appreciate in value, leaving the City with very usable, desirable and valued assets

Respectfully submitted,
